Some U.S. Lawmakers Want Former U.S. Director Of National Intelligence James Clapper Prosecuted For Lying To Congress

Washington Examiner: Lawmakers want James Clapper prosecuted for surveillance testimony before statute of limitations runs out

Some lawmakers would like to see the Justice Department prosecute former spy chief James Clapper for inaccurate testimony to Congress about domestic surveillance before it's too late.

Privacy-conscious critics say looming five-year statutes of limitation for perjury and making false statements — establishing a March 12 deadline for charges — make an urgent case for action, and that nonprosecution would set a dangerous precedent that impedes oversight and executive-branch accountability.

If there is no consequence for lying, why would anyone hesitate to not just lie as well? Seems to be easy enough to do and get away with. The U.S. needs to enforce its laws, to be a lawful country. If it does not, it cannot rule itself nor can it impose moral superiority over other nations. If he lied, and if it is illegal what he did, make him pay the price (I don't say make an example of him or anything like that, just hold him accountable, is that too much to ask today? What will our children learn from all this?)

"The U.S. needs to enforce its laws" For sure but they want an opening to avoid such justice in case someone they care for, or fear, as may be the case with Clapper, needs to be prosecuted. The leaders of the clandestine industry are very powerful due to the dossiers they have on, among others, the lawmakers.

1 year 3 months on Trumps watch

3 years 9 months on Obama's watch

It would be easy to prosecute him. I would like to see it.

But what S-storm will the Dems throw up next week trying to get Trump impeached?

When even bookkeeping and accounting become a Herculean task, you have to pick your battles.

Arresting & prosecuting for example Governor Brown would be of more import
